Being prepared for Bushfire conditions !

     Bush Fire Infomation

Combining practical knowledge with the right bush fire protection products can save lives and homes!

The tradgic and horrific bushfires in Victoria / Australia in 2009 have once again proven that it is essential that all
people have access to a one-stop bush fire / wild fire defence information resource that will assist us all in addressing
the measures needed to be undertaken and maintained to protect your home and family from bushfire / wild fire attack.

Whilst Rural Fire Services and local Councils do a magnificent job in providing valuable information on what
you "should do and know"  they are, understandably, unable to actually provide information on the specific
companies products that actually enable you to turn this great advise into "protective" practical action and
measures, this is where Bushfireinfo has its primary role.

There are some remarkably innovative and cleaver products developed specifically for Bushfire premise and
life protection. Bushfireinfo.com seeks to provide you with awareness and easy access to these products,
many of which are Australian made!

Bushfireinfo.com is about not only providing you with direct access to and information on such Bushfire protection advice
and products, but as importantly providing the businesses that have significantly invested in the development of their
products with a way of affordably reaching their prospective customers.

Because most of the businesses that develop and supply bushfire premise and life protection products are small to medium
size business, such businesses simply do not have the budget and resources to undertake major national marketing campaigns,
due to this, not only, do most  folk fail to become aware of the existance of such products but such business ultimately fail to prosper.

Businesses that have, market ready australian standards compliant, bushfire premise or life protection products are
invited to contact the bushfireinfo.com team by E-Mail with a brief profile of their product/s. We will then make
contact and explore how bushfireinfo.com may be of assistance to their business and in so doing all Australians
that live under the treat of bushfire attack! - Go to contact us!

Important WARNING re the revised AS 3959 - 2009 Bushfire Construction code

Evacuation Roads, lets get serious!

A remarkably concerning SMOKE ALARM issue in your home!

Important WARNING re the revised AS 3959 - 2009 Bushfire Construction code

If you are looking to purchase land, or buy an existing premises that you would move to renovate that is located
in an area that has the potential to be rated a bushfire risk location, for heavens sake, before you sign contracts,
invest the time to go to the local Council and establish if the property is located within a designated bushfire risk zone.
Also ensure that you become aware of what level risk level this actually is. The level of risk rating has a direct bearing
on the actual cost of build, this may be up to 30-40% more than a conventional build cost. Do NOT assume that a
home that is located within a suburban area is not applicable, many are!

Please, I emplore you do not in any manner assume that your builder, architect or building specifier are up to speed
with the complexities of this new standard or as importantly the variations of this standard that are made by the
different States, check every thing totally for your self before you commit to a construction or renovation project.
We are aware of many folk get up to the point of council sign off on a DA only to discover that costly mistakes have
been made within the construction process that do not comply with this standard.

Bushfire evacuation roads for communities - Getting Real about evacuation!

I recently visited the King Lake township in Victoria Australia. Beyond feeling absoutely gutted by the losses suffered by this
community during Black Saturday, there is one issue that was really highlighted for me that to be honest I had never concidered before.

This issue is that of creating and maintaing a "servivable gap / distance" between the road way and high level fuel / radiant
heat sources -
Namely, trees and dence undergrowth.  If its good enough for the Building Code of Austrailia to dictate that a
30 Mtr defencable space be created and maintained bewteen a domestic dwelling and a radiant heat souce (the bush)
then surely the same defencive measures should be adopted on all "key bushfire evacuation routes"

All mains roads departments, councils and other relevant authorities really need to look long and hard at this real life threatening,
and in this case "Life Taking" issue. Telling folk to evacuate is fine, now lets give them safe passage to do so!

If you have an opinion on this issue - please E-mail me through the contact us section of the web site!

About

The Alliance for Fire and Smoke Containment (known to many as just “The Alliance” or “pfpa” for short
due to the web address) was formed in early 2002 i
n response to the need for a well-coordinated, educational
effort to promote the value of a balanced fire protection design in the built environment.

Membership today
encompasses a wide range of interested parties including manufacturers and suppliers, installers and
maintenance / service providers of fire and smoke containment products, as well as other industry trade
associations, fire test laboratories and insurance companies.

The shared goals of “The Alliance” members are to:

·               Promote passive fire protection as part of a total fire safety design approach

·              Promote property protection and public welfare as well as life safety

·               Promote fire fighter safety and facilitate fire fighting activities

·               Disseminate technical information to the Fire Safety Community

·               Promote competency based training, accreditation and licensing
